Fender ’58 Jazzmaster 60th Anniversary 2 Tone Sunburst

Fender ’58 Jazzmaster 60th Anniversary 2 Tone Sunburst – While arguably not as iconic or popular as the other solid-body Fender guitars, the Jazzmaster was undeniably groundbreaking at the time of its release 60 years ago. As with many of Leo Fender’s designs, it was years ahead of its time, boasing design features and materials never before seen on guitars. It’s only fitting therefore that Fender have decided to pay tribute to its legacy and distinct design with this 60th Anniversary ’58 model!

Body & Neck

The shape of the Jazzmaster is an acquired taste, but it remains just as popular today, if not more so, among guitarists of every persuasion. Fender opted to stay close to the design of the original instrument with an ash body and lacquer finish. This means a bright tone with a tame midrange, resonant sustain, and a beautifully understated grain that’s more prominent than many alder-bodied Fender models.

The C-shape neck makes an appearance, in keepin with Fender’s earlier instruments. They’ve also employed a 7.25″ fingerboard radius with a vintage-style curve to it. While this may take some getting used to, it’s favoured by countless guitarists worldwide for it’s comfort and ergomonic feel.

Fender have used maple and rosewood for the neck and fretboard respectively. It’s worth noting that the Jazzmaster was the first electric guitar to feature a rosewood fretboard, so it was always going to make an appearance here. The timeless combination of maple and rosewood simply adds to the bright projection of this guitar, as well as offering silky-smooth playability; you won’t want to put it down!

Electronics & Hardware

At the time of its release, Fender guitars were known for their twangy singlecoil pickups. When the Jazzmaster took the stage, it boasted larger pickups with a charming warmth that helped put it on the map. Known for their broader dynamic response, these pickups remain highly sought after to this day!

The hardware has been carefully selected in-keeping with the original design. This includes black pickup covers (unlike the more common cream/white covers seen on modern variations), Telecaster control knobs and a slick anodized aluminum pickguard. With all of these specs in mind, it’s clear that Fender have lovingly crafted this instrument in the image of the Jazzmaster that started it all!

Here’s what Fender say about the Fender 60th Anniversary 1958 Jazzmaster:

Sixty years ago, Leo Fender introduced the Fender Jazzmaster as the top-of-the-line electric guitar. The original ’58 Jazzmaster boasted a revolutionary offset waist, distinctive sounding pickups, a flexible rhythm/lead circuit and was the first Fender guitar to sport a rosewood fingerboard. A homage to the original prototype of this ground-breaking guitar, the 60th Anniversary ’58 Jazzmaster is your chance to experience this game-changing instrument in its original form.
